Regulation SHO

Regulation SHO governs short sales in US equity securities. TXSE publishes a daily threshold securities list and a list of securities subject to the short sale price restriction under SEC Rule 201. Both are available as downloadable files.

Threshold Securities

A security appears on this list when its failures to deliver reach 10,000 shares or more and 0.5% of shares outstanding, and stay there for five consecutive settlement days. View or download the list for any prior date.

Short Sale Restrictions

When a security falls 10% or more below its prior day's closing price, short sales are permitted only above the national best bid. The restriction holds for the rest of that day and the following trading day. View or download the list for any prior date.

How TXSE publishes these lists

Schedule

The threshold securities list for a trading day is published the prior settlement day, by 5:30 p.m. ET, based on that day's clearing agency data. The Short Sale Restrictions list is published after the market close, by 6:30 p.m. ET, and lists the securities that triggered a restriction that day.

Viewing prior dates

Every prior list is available on its own page. Select a date to load that day's list. There is no separate archive to navigate to.

Files

Each date is published as a downloadable file at a fixed address so that systems can retrieve it directly. Both files are pipe delimited with a single header row and no trailer line.

YYYYMMDD is the trading date the list applies to. A day with no securities on the list is still published, as the header row alone. Files for prior dates remain available at the same address.

Non-trading days

No list is published on days the market is closed. Selecting a date the market was closed will show the nearest available trading day.
